Exploring Kuala Lumpur

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Kuala Lumpur (KL) is a city of rapid socio-economic and cultural development. It serves as an iconic symbol of Malaysia’s future as well as the future of the region. It boasts of 8.9 million tourists a year, making it among the most visited cities in the world.

The city is a cultural mixing pot of Malaysia’s 3 races – Malays, Chinese, Indians. It’s very Southeast Asian because of its service-driven economy, and yet it's very Western because of its developed infrastructure. (rappler.com)

We arrived in our hotel room in the morning of our first day in Kuala Lumpur. We checked-in at the Pacific Regency Hotel, just across the KL Tower area.

We kick-off our Malaysia trip by exploring the nearest attractions in our hotel.

First one we visited is the ever-famous Kuala Lumpur Petronas Twin Towers.

The Petronas Towers, are twin skyscrapers and considered to be the tallest buildings in the world from 1998 to 2004 and remain the tallest twin towers in the world.

After visitng Petronas Twin Towers and the KLCC Suria Shopping Mall, we then went to the KL Central Market thru their MRT. It was quite a fun experience to try their train exploring around the city.

Yes! We have arrived at the KL Central Market. It is located at Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock (Foch Avenue) and the pedestrian-only section of Jalan Hang Kasturi (Rodger Street), a few minutes away from Petaling Street. It was founded in 1888 and originally used as a wet market, while the current building was completed in 1937. It has since been classified as a Heritage Site by the Malaysian Heritage Society and it is now a landmark for Malaysian culture and heritage.

The Central Market Kuala Lumpur is arranged in a stall concept, representing the traditional market that has existed in Kuala Lumpur since the 1800s. Travelers can scroll through the many sections that exists within the Central Market. It offers an array of delicious street food as well as different type of authentic Malay cuisine.

As we were walking around the city, i noticed the structures around me. How beautiful the buildings were and how great that they somehow preserved the beauty of its design.

It is really noticeable that the country has been influenced by different cultures as time pass by.

We passed by Petaling Street, or the Chinatown in KL.; And everything is there! haha if you are looking for cheap stuff to bring as gifts and pasalubong, its the place to be.

Petaling Street however does not exclusively offer pirated products. Haggling is a common sight here and the place is usually crowded with locals as well as tourists.
