Solo Travel in Taiwan

It's been a while since I got to travel outside the Philippines -- and what makes this trip a lot more exciting is that I was traveling alone; such a great time for me to take a break from the hectic work schedules, a give time to myself where I can unwind and relax.

Taiwan has been one of the countries that I've been wanting to visit since; and finally, I got the chance to explore and discover this cosmopolitan city that exudes great positive energy. It is a place that reflects a cultural destination full of surprises.

After days and weeks of research, planning, and trying to have the most elaborate and worth it itinerary, it’s now time to test how well I did for this trip. Although I thought to myself that I must be versatile and be open for changes in my plans – I was still kind of frustrated when I’m unable to follow what I planned to do for the day.

What I love about Taiwan is that as much as possible their government tries to keep traditions and culture well preserved, even if they are undergoing too much modernization in their country. It is a sprawling city with so much things to see and to do. Here, you could experience the different sides of the spectrum – from traditional to very modern destinations, upscale dining or a simple food cart to enjoy, and a lot more. Truly, a perfect place for those adventure seekers and foodies.

For 4 whole days, I was very ecstatic and happy with the places I was able to visit and for the unforgettable moments and experiences that I will forever treasure. It was not easy, but it was worth it.

For this trip, I was able to realize a lot about myself. I was able to measure my capabilities and critical thinking skills in trying to survive alone in a very unfamiliar place with a lot of unexpected situations.

I tried my very best to maximize and enjoy every place i visited, yet there are also some moments where I feel like being frustrated because I wasted so much time trying to navigate the places properly, or sometimes I get too lazy to move early in the day to start exploring the city, and a lot of different factors.

During this trip I was able to know what my strengths and weaknesses are whenever I have to do a lot of things alone, and when there is no one to depend on for me to get through the day. Truly a life-changing experience, and a huge turning point in my life right now.

Things I learned in this trip are:

  • 1. Trust yourself and trust your instincts.
  • 2. Know your priorities and come in prepared.
  • 3. Be versatile and make sure that you're open for possible changes with the plan, always have a Plan B.
  • 4. Enjoy every moment and make memorable experiences.
  • 5. Less is More. // it doesn't matter how many places you have visited but make sure to enjoy each one and make sure to make wonderful memories with the experience.

Here’s a glimpse of the places I visited during my stay in Taipei, Taiwan.

More information and experience about my itinerary will be posted on my next blog posts.
