It's my last day here in Kuala Lumpur, and part of my itinerary is to visit the Batu Caves. I'm stoke to actually visit Batu Caves since I only see it through pictures of some instagram friends or postcards. It feels so good that finally i will be able to see the beauty of the cave.
Batu Caves is a an iconic and popular tourist attraction in Selangor, Malaysia. It is a limestone hill that has a series of caves and cave temples in the Gombak district, 13 kilometres north of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It takes its name from the Sungai Batu (Batu River), which flows past the hill. Batu Caves is also the name of the nearby village.
The cave is one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside India, and is dedicated to Lord Murugan. It is the focal point of Hindu festival of Thaipusam in Malaysia.

Its main attraction is the large statue of the Hindu God at the entrance, besides a steep 272 climb up its steps to finally view the stunning skyline of the city centre.

Monkeys frolic around the caves, and it is a popular spot for rock climbing enthusiasts.

Paintings and scenes of Hindu Gods can also be seen in the Ramayana Cave.

Unfortunately, as time passes by, many of the cave visitors tend to vandalize and exploit some of the areas around the cave. It make it unappealing and very dirty. Imagine, they vandalize a sacred place of worship? How rude! Another thing that really caught my attention is the smell, its nasty! Inside the cave smells like pee everywhere. ugh!
After a few minutes walking around and took some pictures, we then decided to join a group of people to go take a tour inside a cave.

The tour was really great and very informative. I really learned a lot about the history of Batu Caves, and what species can be found ONLY in this cave; as well as it feels great that the money they can raise from the tours will be used to preserved the cave.
Batu Caves is a place where you should not miss on your next visit to Malaysia!
Getting Here:
By Car or Taxi
- Batu Caves is accessible by car or taxi as it is situated beside the main highway of MRR2 in Batu Caves area.
KTM Komuter
- There is also the KTM Komuter train service from KL Sentral to Batu Caves.
Monorail and Bus
- From KL Sentral, take the monorail service to Titiwangsa station. Alight here and take the bus to Batu Caves.
